I am interested in materiality, surface qualities and sculptural processes. Touch and the tactile qualities of the processes of making have been important to communicate feeling. I explore how art making can express emotions, reflect states of mind and be a bridge between internal and external worlds.

The uncertainty of some of the processes has resulted in spontaneous changes of direction. I have used the pressure of the etching press to sculpt paper forms and for the collagraph prints. Many of the processes are physical: searching and finding mostly recycled materials, ripping, shredding, and making the paper pulp, followed by periods of reflection, and thinking by making. I use found materials from the area where I live and work, including the print studio. My work has become more abstract as I am now focussing on the essence and the simplicity of materials to increase the intensity of form. I am interested in the expression of forces, tension, pressure, weight, gravity, absorption, resilience, fragility. The pieces are sculptural, unpredictable, and unique.

My background as a theatre designer, followed by my training and experience as an art therapist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist have informed my interest in communicating psychological elements in my work.
